DESERT GOLD MINER'S RANCH: Restoring & Preserving History

DESERT GOLD MINER'S RANCH: Restoring & Preserving History
This 125yr old desert ranch with 3 cottages and a main residence was first homesteaded by a legendary gold-miner, and town founder Philip Sullivan. The cottages had not been touched in more than a century! We found rotting wood, rats, random debris and crumbled stone masonry. To preserve its history we carefully repaired the grout, sanded old wood and repurposed original redwood timbers for aged shutters, flower boxes, cowboy hat racks and more. We scavenged through junk yards for artifacts like vintage 100yr old doors, old hardware and fixture. We fabricated vintage windows using shatterproof plexiglass. We cleared the land of boulders, dead trees and old trash and installed a new septic system, updated plumbing and electric and installed slow-drip irrigation system as the final step in resurrecting this property's soul.
